Here are a few questions that are frequently asked about The Lexington Center:
What is assisted living?
Assisted living is for adults who need help with everyday tasks. They may need help with medication, dressing, bathing, eating or toileting, but they do not need full-time nursing care.
Who pays for assisted living?
The resident or family is responsible for the cost, but some long-term care insurance policies may cover some of the expenses. The Veterans Administration, through Aid and Attendance, might also be a resource to help defray some of the cost.
How much does it cost?
There are several variables considered by each individual in the cost of their residence. All residents pay a one-time, non-refundable community fee of $1,500. For a individualized cost description, please contact us at The Lexington Center to discuss the options available for you.
Are the rooms furnished?
The rooms are not furnished. We encourage you to bring your favorite things and decorate your new home just the way you like it.
Can I bring my pets to live with me at The Lexington Center?
Pets are allowed to come for a visit. We also have regular visits from "Pet Therapy".
Is smoking allowed?
Smoking is only allowed outside in designated areas.
What physician and pharmacy will I use?
You can continue to use your own doctors, pharmacies, mail order, or other medical providers in the Huntsville area. If you are new to the area, The Lexington Center is conveniently located one-mile from Huntsville Memorial Hospital and a number of medical professional parks, and you will choose your own medical professionals.
Can I leave to go out to lunch, dinner or other outings with friends and family?
You may leave the facility anytime you please. For your safety, we ask that you sign out when you leave. Your family and friends may also come join you for a meal in our private dining room with a purchase of a guest meal.
What happens if I do not like what is on the menu for the day?
We have a supplemental menu that has a variety of meals you can choose from.
Is cable and phone service included?
Expanded Cable is included, but you must arrange for your own phone and internet service.
Do you have a Beauty Shop?
Yes, our on-site hair salon provides hair care for both men and women at a very reasonable rate.
Do you have a Bible class?
Yes! We have Bible classes on Tuesday & Wednesday. We also have Sunday church services provided by volunteers from local churches.
Can I continue to use my home health at The Lexington Center?
Yes! All home health care providers are welcome at anytime.
The Question of When?
Below are some indicators that your loved-one could benefit from assisted living at The Lexington Center. Look for significant changes in one or more of these areas:
Physical appearance and hygiene - Do you notice that he/she sometimes wears the same clothes for days in a row or hasn't showered or shaved?
Mobility - Has he/she fallen more often in the last year than previously? Has he/she given up something in his/ her routine (a morning walk or gardening) that he/she used to enjoy?
Nutrition - Do you notice spoiled food in the refrigerator and groceries that have been in the pantry for months without being eaten? Has his/her weight changed significantly (more than 20 pounds) in the last year?
Mental alertness - More than just "forgetfulness." Is he/she reading the newspaper less or some other mentally stimulating activity that he/she used to enjoy, but now seems unmotivated or uninterested? Has he/she forgotten to take important medications, which endangered his/her health?
Socialization - Does he/she go days in a row without going anywhere or talking to anyone? Has he/she quit attending church, playing cards with friends or other regular social actities that he/she used to enjoy?
